Ὁ μέγιστος πλοῦτος τὸ μηδενὸς δεῖσθαι

The greatest wealth is to need nothing
Diogenes of Sinope, philosopher who gave up everything to live like a dog in a barrel
Interpretations
Diogenes' radical cynicism shows that true freedom and happiness come from liberation from social conventions and material desires. Like a dog (hence 'cynic' from κύων - dog), he lives according to nature, not artificial norms. This is a philosophy of radical autarchy - self-sufficiency, where happiness is a function of inner freedom, not external circumstances.
