Esse est percipi

To be is to be perceived
George Berkeley, Irish Anglican bishop and philosopher (1685-1753)
Interpretations
Quantum mechanics validates Berkeley's insight in unexpected ways - particles exist in superposition until observed. Neuroscience shows consciousness actively constructs reality rather than passively receiving it. Studies of blindsight and subliminal perception reveal that what we consciously perceive is only a fraction of what affects us, suggesting layers of existence beyond direct perception.
