Spirits of the Land, Sea, and Sky

The Inuit pantheon reflects the harsh Arctic environment, where spirits govern the land, sea, and sky. Deities like Sedna, goddess of the sea, and Nanook, master of bears, embody the intimate relationship between humans and nature in this challenging landscape.

In the beginning, there was only the vast expanse of ice and snow. From this primordial landscape emerged the first beings, including the great spirit Anguta and his daughter Sedna.

Sedna, the goddess of the sea, was cast into the ocean by her father. As she sank, her fingers transformed into sea creatures, becoming the source of all marine life.

Nanook, the master of bears, taught humans how to hunt and survive in the Arctic wilderness. He is both a protector and a formidable force of nature.

The Inuit believe that maintaining harmony with these spirits is essential for survival, as they control the elements and the abundance of the land and sea.
