Andrew

Before he was an apostle, he was a seeker who followed John the Baptist, always looking for the "One who is to come." Andrew was the first-called, the one who immediately shared his discovery with his brother Peter, proving that the Gospel is a fire that must be passed on. He is the patron of the East and of fishermen, traditionally martyred on a saltire (X-shaped) cross because he felt unworthy to die exactly like his Lord. He represents the eternal truth that being "first" in the eyes of God is about the speed of one’s response and the depth of one’s fraternal love. He is the apostle of the first encounter.
