Kwame Nkrumah

The "Osagyefo" (Redeemer) who dreamt of a United States of Africa, leading Ghana to be the first sub-Saharan colony to break its chains. He was the philosopher-king of Pan-Africanism, believing that "independence is only the beginning." He represents the "Dignity of the Continent," the voice that told the world that Africa was no longer a dark corner to be carved up, but a giant waking from a long, colonial sleep.
