Julunggul

The great copper-scaled python of the North, a goddess of the rites of passage whose voice is the drone of the didgeridoo and whose belly is the ritual house of the initiates. She is the one who swallows the youngsters only to spit them out as men, a cycle of death and rebirth that mirrors the movement of the moon. Why do we fear the dark when the throat of the serpent is the only place where the boy can die and the man can be born? She represents the deep, slow pulse of the earth’s own time, the mistress of the transition.
