Lono

The God of the Rain, fertility, and music, who descends on the wings of the winter clouds to usher in the Makahiki season. Lono is the "Bringer of Abundance," the one who commands the sweet potato to grow and the thunder to roll gently over the valley. He represents the "Sacred Rest"—the time when war is forbidden and the land is allowed to heal. He is the rustle of the palm fronds in a storm and the promise that after the rain, the earth will be green and the bellies of the people will be full.
