Izanami

The "She Who Invites," the primordial mother who gave birth to the islands of Japan and the gods themselves. After dying in childbirth, she became the Queen of Yomi (the underworld), the goddess of death and decomposition. She represents the "Holy Ending" and the transformation of the body back into the soil. Her story is a warning that life and death are a locked dance—for every thousand lives she takes in her grief, her husband ensures that fifteen hundred are born. She is the mother of the dark threshold.
