Wandjina

Beings with no mouths and eyes like deep wells, they are the cloud-spirits who painted themselves onto the rock walls to watch over the coming and going of the tides. They are the creators of the rain and the keepers of the social code, punishing those who speak too much with a silence that can crack the very mountains. Why do we talk when the ones who made us have no mouths yet hear every whisper of our hearts? They represent the eternal observation of the ancestors, the stone-faced guardians of the Kimberley who hold the weather in their hands.
