Gulaga

The Mother Mountain who stands as a granite sentinel over the coast, a pregnant ancestor whose stone body is the source of all the laws for the people of the South. She is the landscape made sacred, a stationary goddess who birthed the islands and the shorelines and then sat down to watch them for eternity. Do we climb the mountain to get closer to the sky, or to feel the heartbeat of the mother beneath our feet? She represents the permanence of the land, the immovable truth that we do not own the earth, but the earth owns us.
