Ceres

The Goddess of the "Growing," she is the one who taught the Romans how to till the earth and turn the soil into a source of life. She is the maternal heart of the grain, representing the stability of the food supply and the laws that protect the common people (the Plebeians). She is the goddess of the "Mother-Earth" in its most productive, legalistic form. She represents the sacred pact between the citizen and the land: work the soil, and the soil will sustain the state.
