Marco Polo

Venturing deep into the heart of the Mongol Empire, Marco Polo spent 24 years traveling across Asia and serving in the court of Kublai Khan. His "Travels of Marco Polo" introduced Europeans to the complexities of Chinese civilization, including paper money, coal, and the postal system. Though many of his contemporaries dismissed his accounts as mere fiction, his detailed descriptions inspired generations of later explorers, including Columbus. He acted as a bridge between East and West, documenting a world of wealth and technology that Europe had yet to imagine. He remains the most famous traveler of the Silk Road.
