The "Great Fifth" was the first Dalai Lama to exercise full temporal and spiritual authority over all of Tibet, building the Potala Palace as a monument to the Avalokiteshvara. Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso represents the eternal truth of "Sacred Sovereignty," the belief that governance should be a manifestation of compassionate wisdom. He is the father of the Tibetan nation.
